Seven programmes, one ecosystem

From internships and repair clinics to citizen science, research groups and public research slams.

01

Little Experts Internship Programme

A novel initiative to cultivate scientific and technological aptitude among upper primary and high school students. Students receive practical training in robotics, electronics, 3D printing, virtual reality, engineering and scientific research. More than 50 students are selected from each Block Resource Centre, based on their interests, and trained at the Hubs. Little Experts then share what they learned with peers and teachers at their own schools and lead related activities.

LED Clinic

LED Clinics in the STREAM Hubs help students understand the fundamental principles of physics and electronics. Students learn how LED bulbs work, repair defective bulbs and manufacture new ones, which also builds awareness about e-waste management.

Working through Creative Corners and iLabs, and with the cooperation of agencies including local self-government institutions, more than 600 LED Clinics have been set up so far.

03

Citizen Science Programmes

Citizen Science Programmes engage the public as active participants in scientific research, in areas such as water quality monitoring, biodiversity monitoring and public health research.

A programme in Kannur, attended by about 140 students, introduced citizen science and the student's role in it. Working in groups with STREAM Experts and research scholars, students surveyed the flora and fauna of assigned square plots, studied diversity and density, and recorded their findings on the iNaturalist app.

04

Little Researchers Group (Kutti Gaveshaka Kootam)

BRC-level indigenous projects train students to identify social problems and examine them through a research lens. They build critical thinking, creative thinking, communication and collaboration, and prepare students to become tomorrow's researchers and innovators. More than 160 research projects and about 100 innovative projects have been completed across 87 BRCs.

05

STREAM Kutti Slam

Students present their Little Researchers Group projects to teachers, parents and the public in an open-defence format. Six district slams led to the state-level Kutti Slam at CUSAT on 26 and 27 February.

Creative Corner Fest

Creative Corner Fests showcase work produced in the Work Integrated Labs: produce, crafts, paintings, food products and working models made by upper primary students.

07

Teacher Training and Professional Development

STREAM teacher training aims to move teachers from transmitters of knowledge to facilitators who create pathways for student learning. Teachers are trained in integrated learning modules that synthesise subjects, modern assessment methods and new pedagogical technologies.

  1. Connecting subjects with one another and conveying them to students, simplifying textbook concepts by weaving together science, technology and social subjects.
  2. Modern assessment methods that evaluate practical skills, problem-solving and research aptitude, beyond examination-centred assessment.
  3. Hands-on use of digital fabrication, robotics and virtual reality in STREAM Hubs and iLabs, and guiding students to build projects with them.
  4. Becoming mentors who guide Little Researchers Group projects and help students develop their ideas scientifically.
